So klingen D/troit eigentlich:

Wie ein wilder Zusammenschnitt aus rauchig-kratzigem Soul, dreckigem Funk und ungewaschenem Garage-Rock. Drums, Bass und Gitarre rumsen ordentlich, obendrauf gibt’s fancy Tasten, ziemlich tighte Bläser und Toke Bo’s unglaubliche Sex-Appeal-Stimme.

Hauptzielgruppe:

Tanzende Menschen, die das hundertprozentige Gegenteil von EDM suchen. Hier wird sich die Soul aus dem Leibe geschrien und Toke Bo groovt funky über die Bühne. D/troit klingen roh genug um dem Underground zu gefallen, entwickeln aber doch fetzige Pop-Songs für die ein oder andere Masse.

Aktuelles Werk:

Gerade haben D/troit die erste Single ihres Debütalbums veröffentlicht, welches im Spätsommer folgen soll. „Soul Sound System“ geht dabei den Weg von der „Do the right thing EP“ weiter und kommt mit einer verdammt geilen Melodie daher. Wenn das die Marschrichtung ist, dann aber mal schnell her mit dem Album!

Zentraler Song:

Während „Soul thing“ die Energie von D/troit unter Beweis stellt, zeigt die Parallelsingle „The 45“ wohl am besten deren Vielseitigkeit: die groovende Strophe, der melodiöse Refrain und der verdammt soulige Break. Wirkt übrigens noch besser mit dem dazugehörenden Video, das die Band bei einer intimen Live-Performance zeigt.

Gut gesagt:

It ain’t no black thing.
It ain’t no white thing.
It ain’t no rich thing.
It ain’t no poor thing.
It’s a soul thing!

Fun-Fact:

Wenn ihr euch fragt, woher der Name kommt: Die amerikanische Metropole Detroit wurde als „greatest soul music city“ gewählt und ist nicht nur deswegen wegweisend für diese Musikrichtung.

Der geilen Underground-Vinyl-Party, auf der die ganzen prätentiösen Leute zuhause bleiben und tatsächlich nur die Musik abgefeiert wird. D/troit funktionieren am besten im verrauchten, leicht versifften Keller. Alternativ eignen sich die Dänen auch ideal als Motivationsschub. Und wer Lust auf „Soul Food“ hat, legt die EP oder das kommende Album am besten zum Kochen auf.

Drei Fragen an D/troit:

1. So I hear there’s your first album coming up. What details can you already announce? Is it going to include songs from the „Do the right thing“-EP?

We can announce that the album has a more funky vibe than our EP which was more soulful. That does not mean that this upcoming album is not packed with soulful tunes, but just a declaration of our love for funky beats as well…;-)
The album is a LP! And it is in that fashion people should listen to it. Which mean that we most definitely would recommend people to actually buy the LP instead of just listening to it on online music services such as Spotify or Apple music. But please follow us on those platforms as well…;-)
The album is as we speak being mixed by people working for the fabulous Daptone Records and the mixing is supervised by Gabe Roth. He is the man behind legends such as Sharon Jones and Charles Bradley…. We are really proud and happy that these guys want to work on our songs…
The album will not include songs from the EP. So if you wanna enjoy those juicy tunes – buy the EP. Just go to Crunchy.dk and the EP will soon be spinning on your record player…:-)

2. Can you tell us more about how the band got together?

We have been playing in other bands together and we basically just wanted to play soul and funk music. If guys and girls who love to play and hang out together wanna play the same style of music they tend to make bands – we did that as well… and we tend to continue doing that. Music is one of the biggest powers in the universe. Playing it is a great privilege.

3. What do you love so much about the powerful mix of soul, funk and rock you created?

For us personally it’s a basic need. I (Toke the singer) have been singing all my life. It’s something my heart and body just do. It’s an important part of me, but it is also becoming a way for myself to feel myself. It gets a bit far out now, but it’s a DNA thing for me to be a musician. It’s really not a choice.
Soul and funk is the genre we play. I believe all musicians have that kind of the feeling that I just tried to explain. It really doesn’t matter if you play rock, pop or jazz…
And of course it is wonderful to create emotions in people’s minds and hearts and watch them express all that joy that soulful music brings.
