#nofilter with Lydmor

Et voilà: das atmosphärische „I love you“. Jetzt aber genug Vergangenheit. Lydmor steht eine neue Veröffentlichung bevor: etwas Mysteriöses. Im Chat spricht Jenny über „the BIG thing“, die kommende Tour, ihre Zeit in Shanghai, die Beziehung zur Musik und Alter-Egos. And go!

that new music blog:
alrighty jenny, hope you are doing fine! you told me you’re having quite a busy time. what did you today until now?
Jenny Rossander:
hmm… what I did today.. Let me see.
I woke up, Listened through a playlist I have with all the new tracks… I was intending to take notes on what needed to be done, but I actually ended up just enjoying it and drinking coffee, dancing around a bit
that was nice
(all the new tracks – like of my upcoming release im working on)
that new music blog:
haha! how many songs do you have in the playlist right now?
Jenny Rossander:
quite a lot
hehe
that new music blog:
well that’s good news!
Jenny Rossander:
It’s gonna be awesome. I promise
two sec my manager is calling
that new music blog:
of course!
Jenny Rossander:
back
lol my manager is funny
that new music blog:
yay
why that? :p
Jenny Rossander:
He just really likes making weird metaphors about what we’re doing.. „So this label is kinda like that girl who get’s dragged along all the time because her friend is attractive“
stuff like that
that new music blog:
haha, well that sounds like THE label!
Jenny Rossander:
hehe…
anyway
sorry for the interruption
that new music blog:
no worries. so back to your music, you already broke the news: new release coming up. it’s been some time since you announce there’s going to be a BIG THING. but how much can you tell about it right now?
Jenny Rossander:
Ooh… I can tell some things..
that new music blog:
Go on!
Jenny Rossander:
But I don’t know the dates yet… like it could be in two months or it could be in one year
or two years
like
I have no idea about that
that new music blog:
ok, what’s making it so unsure?
Jenny Rossander:
firstly, i’m not done with it yet… and secondly it all depends on labels and pr people and all that.
that new music blog:
yeah I can see that.
so since it seems to be such a big thing: what is going to be so different about it?
Jenny Rossander:
I really want to do it right and give people the time they need to make it shine..
Well.. (story time) A lot of things happened between last time I released and now… I almost stopped making music. I broke my heart so terribly terribly… I got stressed…
In the end I had to do something crazy
To stop the circle
So I quit playing concerts and moved to Shanghai
alone
that new music blog:
and you got back on track in Shanghai?
Jenny Rossander:
hehe
not in the way i expected
I feel like I changed
But in a good way
Some things happened… I met some people. Some of it quite dark… But I became stronger… It was hella hard and lonely and confusing but I grew a lot as an artist
that new music blog:
that all sounds very adventurous!
Jenny Rossander:
It’s difficult to describe.. I think that’s one of the main reasons I’m making the album… To let people know.. How crazy it can get.. And how gorgeous that is
And it’s gorgeous that you get lonely. And dark. And confusing..
you know?
that new music blog:
did anything change in your way of perceiving music too?
Jenny Rossander:
yes
and no
haha
that new music blog:
haha how that?
Jenny Rossander:
I had lost track of it before… It had become an intellectual thing.. and something I worried about
like „why should I make music there is already so much music being released?“
Or „I have to invent a new genre otherwise nobody will like me“
Thoughts like that
a lot actually!
And it’s poison for creativity
that new music blog:
yeah I guess. doubting everything surely doesn’t help!
Jenny Rossander:
And I think in Shanghai I realised that I can do whatever I want
And I can make it as crazy and big and weird and I don’t have to kinda explain my actions to anyone… you know?
Like there’s not gonna be some sorta hipster police chasing after me 😉
that new music blog:
haha, the famous!
Jenny Rossander:
So I decided to make it crazy big!
hehe
that new music blog:
in the last months, I saw you went to norway and tokyo. what did these trips offer you musically (and personally)?
Jenny Rossander:
Norway has been because I’m working with a Norwegian co producer… Who is amazing…
that new music blog:
🙂 and tokyo?
Jenny Rossander:
Oh man… Tokyo was crazy… I am doing one track with a really big shot J pop producer… That was a pretty unique experience…
Like… I think they expected me to just come in and sing… and then I had to remind them that I am also a producer..
but when they accepted that (not used to girl producers over there) it was a lot of fun!
that new music blog:
wow! that’s crazy because it’s exactly what I was going to ask. Can we expect some j-pop influence? (I’m thinking of the latest Grimes album for example)
Jenny Rossander:
haha… I don’t think it’s gonna influence my album thought.. That track is for another project
that new music blog:
oh ok, something to be released under the name lydmor?
Jenny Rossander:
I don’t think so… Maybe as him feat me or something… Oh yeah… That’s the thing.. I am mrs. collaboration… I can’t say no to cool things so I always end up doing a million weird things at once
that new music blog:
haha!
Jenny Rossander:
And I am like a magnet for weird projects
that new music blog:
looking forward to that one especially though!
Jenny Rossander:
u into j pop?
that new music blog:
so let’s talk a bit about your upcoming live-dates
Jenny Rossander:
yeeeah
that new music blog:
ah not really I’d say, I just really enjoyed the heavy influence like on grimes’ last album
sooo, a lot of new stuff on your private playlist – what about the setlist?
Jenny Rossander:
hehe
that’s the whole point of the tour
actually
that new music blog:
to try out the new stuff? see how people react?
Jenny Rossander:
Yeah… because, I really shouldn’t be touring right now.. Because I need to finish this album. im working 24/7 on it… so i’ve really said no a lot of (nice) gigs
but now I feel like I kinda need to feel it live… To look into peoples eyes, to try and build the concept up visually
so it’s only in select cities that I think are really cool… So it feels like the tour of all tours haha 🙂 🙂
that new music blog:
haha! and the first time in england, I heard?
Jenny Rossander:
YEAS!
!!!
I’ve actually been a bit afraid of the english scene
that new music blog:
how come?
Jenny Rossander:
They are so talented!
and stylish
And I love the accent
that new music blog:
haha! you will definitely have a hell of a time
Jenny Rossander:
I feel like I have a crush… on like.. the country 😉
So you know I get all insecure and sweaty hands and shy at the thought of playing there
that new music blog:
one thing I asked myself: the last 18 months you played a lot of concerts with thomas as lydmor&bon home, so basically as a duo. how is that gonna affect your live performance, now that you’re back on your own?
Jenny Rossander:
Good question
hmm
A lot I think
But I’m not sure I’m conscious about all the ways.. you know?
that new music blog:
you think you’re gonna look left to you…and miss someone?
Jenny Rossander:
I definitely learned a lot from tomas… just like… technically.. We were a really good match because we kinda knew different things
He’s quite detail oriented and analogue.. I’m quite conceptual and digital
haha… Nah, I’ve missed being alone on stage.. As much as I love tomas and love doing what we do on stage…
that new music blog:
haha
Jenny Rossander:
I’m more free to go bat shit when I am alone up there….
When he’s there I have to make room for him as well…
that new music blog:
😀
Jenny Rossander:
But idk… I might be getting some musicians on stage
maybe
that new music blog:
oh!
Jenny Rossander:
just because I realised that’s nice… to have somebody play the beats for example
that new music blog:
already for the announced dates?
Jenny Rossander:
nope.. but maybe later
that new music blog:
ok
ok jenny, one last topic I want to talk about with you:
Jenny Rossander:
yeah.. I mean I have plenty of time right now so we can do this as long as you want 😀
that new music blog:
haha :p
Jenny Rossander:
ok shoot
that new music blog:
I’m sure we’re going to talk about that topic a lot actually ah ah
Jenny Rossander:
nice!
that new music blog:
some years ago, you did a lot of concerts in people’s homes. in the last months however you did several piano sessions via Facebook Live where you played the piano for almost two hours and spoke to your followers. amazing thing! where did that idea come from?
Jenny Rossander:
the live stream?
that new music blog:
yeah!
Jenny Rossander:
I was bored.. haha
hehehehehe… Best ideas come when you’re bored.. That’s why you should never forget to allow yourself to become super bored
#wisdom
😉
that new music blog:
#quoteoftheday
Jenny Rossander:
no.. I had a time where I was working so much, and when I work I just sit alone with my computer and make things.. Like writing, coordinating with people, composing, making beats, listening…
And it can get kinda lonely
So this was a nice and easy way to get some intimacy! And feel a bit like it all made sense…
Its sooooooo nice when people comments and send hearts and you can talk to them and they’re all over the world… It’s really heart warming
that new music blog:
🙂
how was the general reaction?
Jenny Rossander:
really good! way better than I expected…
I’m gonna keep doing it… Also start doing electro stuff in the livestream.. And announcing it… It feels like a new cool way to perform and I really like it.. I feel like I’ve only tried the tip of the iceberg
Currently I don’t announce them… Not because I don’t want to… Its just very impuslive
impulsive
that new music blog:
yeah I think it’s the future of fan connection
Jenny Rossander:
It’s definitely a part of it
I’ve thought a looooooot about the whole „future of music“ thing lately
that new music blog:
haha and what are your main thoughts?
Jenny Rossander:
There is a character… In my new universe… I guess you can call it an alterego.. Who is very much a comment on that…
Like… Right now she only exists online… And everything she does is a lie… All fake… She cheats wherever she can.. And curates this lifestyle as if she is perfect.. She’s kinda evil
But she’s also a lot of fun! 😀
that new music blog:
haha
Jenny Rossander:
She’s a DJ… And she is gonna tour… as a dj.. eventually.. but right now she’s satisfied buying herself followers and likes on instagram and soundcloud
that new music blog:
things we all do
Jenny Rossander:
It’s a part of the big thing 🙂 creating her, and sometimes becoming her….
I really like playing with identity
I don’t understand why more musicians don’t do it… It’s so much fun. Bowie was on to something
that new music blog:
so how many alter egos do you count yours right now?
Jenny Rossander:
She’s the only one
I think it’s a big thing… creating one… like – a real one
I had an idea for another one, but Lydia ended up being more interesting
that new music blog:
so don’t you see „lydmor“ as one as well?
Jenny Rossander:
no
that’s just me
whoever that is
that new music blog:
haha!
Jenny Rossander:
hehe
I don’t think I am as clearly defined as Lydia
There was once this guy who said an amazing thing
Like, really, you have to steal this one and say it to a lady you like one day.. Because it’s so perfect
We were in love… And I asked him if he liked me with or without makeup.. and he said „You have a thousand faces and I love all of them“
Ended bad with the guy, but the sentence stuck with me….
So liberating
that new music blog:
🙂 steal it and make it yours in a song!
Jenny Rossander:
To be allowed… To be a thousand different things
Do you ever get that feeling when you look back on your life that you’ve been completely different people in the different periods?
that new music blog:
yes!
Jenny Rossander:
I think Herman Hesse talks about it in Steppenwolf… Somebody told me
But I haven’t read it yet…
But yeah.. I feel like that a lot… And I sorta like it…
that new music blog:
so do you feel that every album you’ve done reflects a different you at the time it was recorded?
Jenny Rossander:
Oh yes!
Especially the solo albums
The duo album is much more about the past… Nostalgia and thinking back… For both me and Tomas, I think
that new music blog:
ok, jenny! I think we had a really really good time chatting (as if it was MSN) ! maybe one last (totally chatty) thing: what are you going to do this weekend?
Jenny Rossander:
haha! Yeah it was super cozy! MSN style! I think this is a nice way to interview people.. so chill
weekend! Firstly I’m gonna make some beats for this animation fantasy series I’m involved with… There is a really sensual dancing scene that I need to make the music for
Then… I am going to have a meeting with my art director for the big thing..
and then I’m gonna go out I think
I haven’t been to a Techno club in ages.. I feel like dancing.
that new music blog:
animation fantasy series – the crazy things don’t stop!
Jenny Rossander:
Told
you
hehe
I’m a magnet for those
that new music blog:
thanks so much for talking so much about the BIG THING! I think the world can be excited for it and I wish you all the best for finishing it up as you wish it to be!
Jenny Rossander:
Yay thank you! And have a beautiful weekend
