Seed To Tree (Band) | Portrait + Interview

Gut getroffen:

Musikstil – das sagt die Band:

Indie Folk Pop – behaupten Seed To Tree zumindest auf ihrer Facebook-Page.

So klingen Seed To Tree wirklich:

Indie, ja. Pop, ja. Folk, eher weniger!

Mitglieder:

Gut gesagt:

Let’s see how far that I can go with
Being friendly and subversive
There’s nothing I should hide from

Drei Fragen an Seed To Tree

Luxembourg seems to be such a great place to live for a lot of people. How’s life for musicians over there?

Luxembourg can be a very nice place to live; and especially at the beginning of careers, it is for musicians as well. There are great structures that are able to support you in many different ways. You are able to play some really cool gigs and festivals quite quickly, as the competition between Luxembourgish groups is quite limited. You feel like in a big family; that´s the cool thing about it. But, at some point, you need to get out of Luxembourg. You need to have a lot of patience and persistence because you got to find bookers and labels abroad as there’s no music industry in Luxembourg. And that´s where you´ll learn that the music business is hard, that the competition is huge and that it takes so much more than just making good music to stand out.

I noticed you’re doing quite a few radio sessions. What’s your approach to strip down these song musically?

Actually, our approach is quite pragmatic: basically, we exchange all original instruments from the songs with smaller ones that are easy to carry on a bike and that we are able to bring to the radio station: portable synthesizers, drum machines, shakers and acoustic guitars. Then, we try to recreate the essence of the song by playing the key elements like catchy riffs, sounds or rhythms, and just see where this brings us. If it sounds cool, we´re done. If not, we just don´t play that song.

On Spotify, you’re featured in the playlist „Gegen den Strom“. Do you actually feel like making music „against the mainstream“?

It is really hard to say. What is mainstream and what’s not? As it always has been in music history, there´s always a point where an “against the mainstream” movement becomes so popular that it turns out to be mainstream again. We´re not thinking in these categories. We have a lot of music that inspires us, and which helps us in creating songs that we like, that we are proud of, and that we feel are special and unique for us. Maybe we are not going to reinvent the wheel but our goal is to make ambitious, profound and well-thought-out music that has the ability to touch people emotionally, if they decide to engage in it.

Upsi. Aber ihr seid dem Englischen ja mächtig. Deswegen: Go listen to „Proportions“!
